DEBUUT CD
Winner of the Nekka Competition presents his debut album.
SAF is the protagonist of a new generation of singers from Ghent and brings his music in the local dialect, backed by a quartet with roots in gipsyswing, musette and valse.
bio The witty lyrics of singer-songwriter SAF are flavoured by many. His wayward satire show pokes fun at the simple and tougher sides of life. Many of the lyrics started out as poems about barflies burning the midnight oil. Backed by a quartet of two acoustic guitars, accordeon and double bass, SAF plays his own compositions with influences of gipsyswing, musette, valse, tango, reggae, ...
After playing solo for a while, Christophe Haeck (SAF) wanted to add some spice to his songs and started the band SAF in 2002. To their surprise the dialect of Ghent was very well received by a wider audience. SAF made his debut in the Valentine revue of the theatre group Vuile Mong en de Vieze Gasten, with regular live appearances all over Ghent ever since. Highlights in particular were the concerts during the Gentse Feesten 2005 at the Korenmarkt and Huis van Alijn.
In 2004 SAF made a first demo with huge acclaim as he is almost alone in his quest for recognition of the local dialect. The years that followed our favourite poète maudit was a regular guest during concerts of brassband Va Fan Fahre. On their first album Romski Robbery, SAF sang the song Plakke Plakke. This track later appeared on the compilation Gypsy Garden 2. Lola’s World, D., 2006, and was played on national and international radios. On the second album by Va Fan Fahre. Zet je maar. Saf contributed on 2 songs, Flikkendag and MC Rijkuurde.
Since 2009 things changed thoroughly for SAF as he participated in the Nekka Competition, thé competition for Flemish songwriters, and won the competition in december 2009. At the same time his first album approached completion so the timing couldn’t be better. February 2010 this nameless debut was presented in the Minard Theatre in Ghent and other places around the country. Press and public was very enthousiastic then and later during the Nekka Nacht in Sportpaleis Antwerp in front of a crowd of 20.000 people.
This summer SAF is playing a nice series of concerts and has never been this ready.
